  • 1 cup water
  • 4 fresh apples, peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom

Instructions

  1. Place the water and apple wedges in a small saucepan, cover, and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce the heat and simmer for 25 minutes, until the apples are soft and turn a light yellow color; if the pan becomes dry, add a bit more water.
  3. Remove the apples from the sauce pan, add cinnamon and cardamom, and then lightly mix or mash them with a potato masher.

Tips

  • For a sweeter version, substitute type of apple and nutmeg for the cardamom.
  • Be careful not to burn the apples. First time, ended up slightly scorching them which is why they have such a darker color in the photo.
  • subbed 1tsp cardamom with 1/2 tsp cardamom and 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • also added some Truvia liquid for additional sweetness
  • this only made 3 half cup servings.
